4 passive income you should try (without quitting your job)

person holding cash

The prices of goods and services keep on rising. Is your current income enough to sustain your daily expenses? Now is the time to look for another income source.

The increasing prices are making your money worth less because of inflation.

Inflation is the rate at which prices of goods and services rise. Just last month, inflation rate climbs to 6.1% in the Philippines.

So for example, if you bought 100 Pesos worth of grocery items before, it would cost you 106 Pesos for the same grocery items now. And that seems like not a big deal.

But if you bought 10,000 Pesos worth of grocery items before, it would cost you 10,600 Pesos now. And that’s 600 Pesos more!

There are a lot of factors that affect inflation rates. But one thing is for sure, fixed-income earners are directly affected.

This is why I would like to share how you can earn additional side income passively.

But what is passive income?

Passive income is simply a type of income in which a person is not actively involved.

While there are several different ways to earn a passive income, these 4 ways would allow you to earn without quitting your job.

1. Start blogging

Have you ever thought of starting a blog just to express your thoughts and share your experiences?

Now, that won’t be the only reason to motivate you to start blogging because there are several ways to earn from it.

Here are two examples.

Google AdSense (aka Google Ads)

AdSense is a program by Google for bloggers to monetize their work by displaying ads on their blogs.

Here’s an example of Google ads appearing on one of my blog posts from Kamalayan Blog. A blog that I created together with my friends back in 2020 and is still running.

But at the moment, our blog isn’t focused on monetization right now. So no ads will be shown.

So, how much can you earn from it?

You may check out your potential earnings on Google AdSense’s official website.

Here’s a quick glance.

Affiliate Program

What is an affiliate program?

It’s an advertising model provided by a company for those who wish to promote their products or services. In return, the company reward you with a commission.

Most well-known companies offer this type of program and provide you with an affiliate link.

An affiliate link is a unique link your affiliate partner has provided you for them to track your referrals.

Here’s how it works.

When someone clicks your affiliate link, it will take them to your partner’s website. And when they make a purchase, you’ll earn a commission.

Best way to promote your affiliate link is to incorporate it with your blogs.

Create content that naturally fit the relevant affiliate link. Otherwise, your content would be horrible to read.

Keep in mind that blogging won’t get you rich quickly. But it’s an effective way to build a following and trust in the early stage with your audience.

And when you promote products or services to your audience later, buying from you is a no-brainer.

Here’s an example of a blog that talks about money management for millennials.

As you can see, the link which I highlighted is an example of affiliate link in action, which then brings you to Fiverr’s website.

And when you decided to purchase a gig on Fiverr, the blog owner would earn a commission.

Here’s another example.

Years back, I applied to Agoda as an affiliate partner. But I never used my affiliate link because I haven’t made content on travel and leisure.

If you decided to make a blog on travel and leisure, Here’s how you could incorporate affiliate links.

Let’s take Agoda for example and use my affiliate link.

You can just simply use a simple text link or use banner image to make it more attractive.

But it’s all up to you to decide. Try experimenting for you to know which brings the best result.

Here’s an example of a banner.

When you click the CTA (call to action) button on the banner, it will take you to Agoda with my affiliate link on it.

And the best part is that you won’t have to create banners yourself because most companies will provide these for you.

So, how much you can earn from it?

It depends on how many customers you bring to your partner’s website and makes a purchase.

Here’s what Agoda commission rate looked like.

For every different affiliate program out there, they provide different commission rates.

Keep in mind that most affiliate programs will require you to have a website.

So if you’re interested to give blogging a try, then you gonna need to have a website.

How to start a blogging website?

Get a web hosting and domain name.

Web hosting is special storage where it stores your blog site data. While a domain name is what identifies you on the internet.

Here’s an example of a domain name.

This website uses www.christiandaleapolinario.com.

Both web hosting and domain name are essential to start any type of website and are needed for your blog site to be accessible on the internet.

Here’s how you get your web hosting and domain name.

I recommend using Hostinger because they provide top-notch service at a very affordable price. I’ve been using their service since 2018.

You may click on my affiliate link and choose a plan on Hostinger’s website.

Affiliate Disclosure: If you purchase through my affiliate link, it won’t cost you more, but it would help me earn a commission.

On Hostinger’s WordPress hosting plans, most plans will work just fine. But if you’re just starting out, WordPress Starter Plan will be the best to start.

You can then upgrade or downgrade your plan any time you like.

For only 149PHP/mo, you’ll get a free domain and free email.

And it’s not just an email, but a professional one. Your professional email would then look like this, yourname@yourdomain.com.

In this article, I won’t be teaching you how to build a blogging website because there are already great tutorials out there teaching this stuff.

Here’s a step-by-step guide from Neil Patel which I think you can easily follow along without needing to learn how to code and start blogging right away.

While there are other blogging platforms out there that you can start without money, I highly recommend you learn how to use WordPress.

WordPress is a blogging platform that is more customizable and flexible than other platforms and lets you build a website without coding.

Learning WordPress will open many opportunities not just for blogging, because you could also learn how to build corporate websites, portfolios, and online stores along the way.

When you purchase a plan on Hostinger, WordPress is already included.

And if you get stuck somewhere, don’t hesitate to contact me because I’ll be happy to assist you with this. Plus, Hostinger’s customer service is responsive. They would be happy to assist you too!

2. Start a YouTube channel

If writing is something you don’t like to do, then you may consider making videos on YouTube.

Here’s a video from Shopify where it explains how to earn on YouTube even if you are just starting out.

3. Start An Online Course

Finding great online learning resources will not always be free.

Everyone can learn on YouTube for free, but most talented teachers sell their courses on online learning platforms, such as Udemy.

Millions of students are already on the platform to learn, including me.

Back in 2018, when I started learning how to build my website, I couldn’t find a great tutorial on YouTube. One course on Udemy helped me a lot.

So, if you are wondering if anyone is willing to pay for your course, the answer is yes.

Everyone is willing to pay for great courses.

If like to share your expertise, then consider creating a Udemy course.

4. Be a host on Airbnb

Do you have an extra room in your home that is just collecting dust?

Maybe it’s time for you to start earning from it.

Now, you won’t need to have an apartment to start earning with your property.

You can share an extra room, kitchen, or bathroom and still live in your home!

Check out Ryan’s experience being a host on Airbnb.

So, if you like meeting people from all over the world, then consider becoming a host on Airbnb.

Keep in mind that these 4 ways may seem like easy things to do, but it’s not.

When you’re just starting out, growing an audience on your blog, creating content on YouTube, creating courses, and making your home look attractive for an Airbnb listing will take a lot of work upfront.

But if you invest your time learning these and put some work into it, it would passively bring you a good amount of side income.

I’ll be updating this article and adding more ways how to earn passive income in the future.

What side income have you tried already, and has it helped you earn passively? Share it in the comments below.
